Day 260 - Don't Tread on Me

The hubs and I actually almost did tread on this guy as we were out hiking today. He was right in the middle of the trail and we almost didn't see him. As soon as we spotted him though we both whipped out our cameras. I took probably about 20 shots of him. These were my faves.

Why the title? According to Wikipedia, "The Gadsden flag is a historical American flag with a yellow field depicting a rattlesnake coiled and ready to strike. Positioned below the snake is the legend "DONT TREAD ON ME." The flag was designed by and is named after American general and statesman Christopher Gadsden. It was also used by the Continental Marines as an early motto flag. It was the first flag ever carried into battle by the United States Marine Corps, during the American Revolution."

Awesome pictures, it's always such a treat to encounter snakes (as long as noone is stomped on!)

Lol, and I thought you ll say that first thing you did would be to get the hell out of its way and not take the cameras out haha. But awesome pics, I can see why you couldnt see him. Great mimicry.

Wow, these are amazing! The detail and colour in the scales is stunning. Not sure how I would have reacted to finding this guy!

That's WAY too close to a rattlesnake for my taste! Great shots though!

GREAT shots, Misty. I look every year for snakes but rarely find them. This year I found a dead rat snake and almost stepped on a corn snake one night (too dark for a pic). I'm glad y'all missed this one, but he is beautiful. Have a good week.

You're so brave. I think I would have run away really fast, but good for you for keeping your cool and getting these great shots.

Great pictures! We actually have one of these flags. My pole is broken, though, or we'd be flying it more often!
